The Aladdin Infant-Care Center, which had to vacate the former Fulton Elementary School on Wednesday, will relocate to a temporary home today in the cafeteria at the former Patterson Elementary School.

Clara Whiteman, owner of the nonprofit center, had been searching for a new location for the operation since May, when the city school district announced that it would lease the Fulton school to a new tenant. The center, which cares for 60 infants, had been at the Fulton school since 1983.

The Aladdin Day-Care Center, a profit-making venture also owned by Whiteman, was forced to relocate from the school as well, where it had been since 1981. The day-care center, with 140 children, has found a temporary home at the Center School in Manhattan Beach, Whiteman said.

Whiteman said she struck a last-minute deal with Redondo officials late last week for the Patterson site, which she plans to rent for two months while searching for a permanent facility. City officials said Aladdin will pay $3,500 a month rent.

Whiteman thanked city officials this week at the City Council meeting for their cooperation in finding a temporary home for the infant center, which she said would have been forced to close temporarily without city help.
