Carl Peterson and Steve Silver of University High, doubles partners for just two weeks, scored an impressive 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ken Lynn and Greg Pitters of Taft in the City individual championships at The Racquet Centre in Studio City.
After Peterson and Silver easily won the first set, they appeared to be on their way to a rout. But Lynn and Pitters rallied to take a 4-3 second set lead before Peterson and Silver won three straight to take the match.
Silver said the vocal Taft crowd bothered him and his sophomore teammate.
“They were getting on our nerves a little bit,” Silver said. “But we got on with the match and won it.”
Larry Pearl of Taft, the No. 2-seeded singles player in the City, defeated James Lee of Marshall, 6-3, 7-5, to win third place.
