Political Courage

With reference to the last paragraph of Ernest Conine’s column (Editorial Pages, May 20), “Will Gorbachev Give Consumers a Break,” I would like to make the following queries:
If “the new Soviet leader has the courage and political strength to give much less money to the military sector,” would Conine advocate that our leader do the same? And does President Reagan have “the courage and political strength” to do it? Certainly many here at home, including our local homeless, would benefit.
