600 Malaria Cases Reported in Venezuela

CARACAS, Venezuela — More than 600 cases of malaria have been reported in eastern Venezuela in the last year--15 years after the disease was considered eradicated in the area, medical officials said Monday.
The newspaper El Nacional quoted Dr. Alejandro Mondolfi of the Venezuelan Central University as saying the number of cases continues to rise.
The first cases were reported about a year ago in a few isolated areas, Mondolfi said.
