Ralph Davis Dies; Founded L.A. Firm
Ralph E. Davis, a founder of General Plant Protection Co., once Los Angeles’ largest private security organization, died Monday at the Veteran’s Hospital in Sepulveda.
Davis was 88 and a decorated Marine World War I veteran who gave up a career in investments to found the security firm shortly after World War II.
He originally hired only fellow Marine veterans, but wartime expansion triggered the abandonment of that policy.
At one time the firm, sold in 1962 to Wackenhut Corp., had 4,000 employees.
Davis’ survivors include a brother, William.
