Spring Training / Dodgers : McNamara and Rains Came

VERO BEACH, Fla. — John McNamara, who has gone from managing the Angels to managing the Boston Red Sox, got a hug from Al Campanis and a ride in Tom Lasorda’s golf cart, but otherwise his 90-minute bus ride from Winter Haven was a wasted trip when Boston’s scheduled game with the Dodgers was rained out here Thursday afternoon.
They actually started the game after a half-hour delay, but it was called in the bottom of the first after a leadoff single by Steve Sax.
The Dodgers are scheduled to travel to Lakeland, Fla., today to play the Detroit Tigers, the defending world champions, but first baseman Greg Brock won’t make the trip. Brock, who was examined by Dr. Frank Jobe on Wednesday, said his right elbow is still sore, and that he probably wouldn’t be able to play until Saturday.
“Nothing serious,” Brock said. “Dr. Jobe said there was some swelling, but that’s about it.”
Jerry Reuss, who worked the first inning Thursday, will start against the Tigers today.
