Kid Ory’s Stolen Horns Recovered

The daughter of the late jazz trombonist Kid Ory recovered his horn Monday evening, five days after it was stolen from her Hollywood home, along with an alto saxophone, a cornet, some jewelry and video equipment.
“I’m ecstatic,” exulted Babette Ory, who said an unidentified man called her attorney to claim he had seen some teen-agers throwing the three instruments into a trash dumpster near his house and had read the story about the theft in The Times.
Ory said she went to his house, not far from her own, paid a $200 reward and walked out with the three instruments. Her jewelry and video equipment are still missing, she said.
After the custom-made horn disappeared from Ory’s Hollywood home Wednesday night, she said no questions would be asked if it were returned. She did not ask any Monday night, she said.
Her father called the valuable trombone “Boo-Boo.”
