Ex-Welterweight Muniz Sues Brewing Company

Eastside boxing favorite Armando Muniz, who unsuccessfully fought for the world welterweight title four times, charged the Stroh Brewing Co. with breach of contract in a $1.5-million lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles federal court.

Muniz, 38, charged that the Detroit-based brewery refused to pay a $10,000 annual talent fee that had been promised him besides a $28,000-a-year manager’s salary. Muniz says he negotiated the package in early 1982 with the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Co. Stroh bought out Schlitz later that year.
