Garden Grove : Single Parents Targeted for Self-Help Program
- Share via
Specifically targeting Buena Clinton area welfare recipients, the City Council has appointed a task force to implement a program to help low-income, single parents leave public assistance rolls for good.
Called “Project Self-Sufficiency,” the self-help program will provide rent subsidies, child care and transportation for participants while they receive job training.
The task force, appointed earlier this week, consists of a broad spectrum of community leaders, including representatives of the Private Industry Council, the Crystal Cathedral and social, housing and children’s agencies.
The group’s first job is to draw up an action plan for the federally funded program. A rough draft is expected by the end of the month, with a final version to be completed by mid-March. The task force will also identify the needs of motivated low-income single parents and screen eligible candidates.
