Plans to build a maximum-security prison in Adelanto may be in trouble. Michael Carrington, an aide to Sen. H. L. Richardson (R-Glendora) said in a published interview that the prison plans have been scrapped, but the state Department of Corrections said no final decision would be announced for a month. Carrington said several high-ranking state officials and legislators had agreed at a recent meeting that the prison should not be located in Adelanto, 70 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
