College Basketball ROUNDUP : Canyons 85, Valley 80

Dan White’s 30 points paced College of the Canyons to a victory over Valley College in Van Nuys. The Cougars improved their Mountain Valley Conference-leading record to 3-0 and 15-4 overall.

The Cougars, who led almost the entire game, used scoring spurts of nine, seven, and five to earn a 39-29 halftime advantage. Canyons pulled out to its biggest lead of the game, 67-50, with 10 minutes left.

Valley, 2-2 and 12-8 overall, cut the deficit to four, 70-66, at the five minute mark with eight unanswered points. The Monarchs couldn’t get any closer as Canyons converted 4 of 5 one-and-one opportunities.

Larry Middleton scored 26 of his game high 40 in the second half to keep the Monarchs, 2-2 in the MVC and 12-8 overall, in the game. Glenn Boss added 20 for Valley and Deron White finished with 15 for Canyons.
