Singer Frankie Laine is undergoing tests at Mercy Hospital, where he was admitted Wednesday after suffering chest pains, hospital spokesman Norman Greene confirmed Thursday.
Greene would not disclose the types of tests or the nature of Laine’s illness, but said that the singer was not seriously ill.
Laine was forced to cancel appearances in Edmonton, Canada, and Concord, Calif., this weekend because of his illness.
Laine,71, was propelled into stardom in 1947 after recording “That’s My Desire,” which sold more than 1 million copies. He later recorded at least 20 other million-selling records, including “I Believe,” “Mule Train” and “Rawhide.” Laine resides in Point Loma.
