Man Dies After Being Hit With Purse

A 61-year-old man collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack after a 58-year-old companion slugged him with her pocketbook. Los Angeles police arrested the woman for investigation of murder. Joseph Gonia, 61, collapsed on a Hollywood street after being hit as the two were out walking. Gonia, who had a history of heart problems, died at the scene, said Detective Russell Kuster of the Hollywood Division. Joyce Privetier, a “longtime acquaintance” of Gonia, was booked for investigation of murder, Sgt. David Young said. She was held without bail at the Sybil Brand Institute for Women.
