Saying she cannot live on the $44,600 she currently receives in spousal support from entertainer Johnny Carson each month, Joanna Carson has requested an extra $6,000 a month from her estranged husband, court documents revealed Wednesday.
According to papers filed Dec. 28, Mrs. Carson said she was forced to sell stocks and bonds in order to meet her monthly expenses, which she estimated to be $54,000 a month.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Frances Rothschild is expected to rule on the request Jan. 29.
Carson, host of the “Tonight Show,” agreed last year to pay his wife $2 million in cash and $44,600 a month in temporary spousal support, pending trial of their divorce case. Mrs. Carson originally sought $2.64 million a year, saying she needed $220,000 a month in support to continue the life style she had grown accustomed to while married to Carson.
She said her husband stopped paying the $5,800 monthly rent on their Hotel Pierre apartment on 5th Avenue in New York in October.
