Mettler to Chair Board

Rubin F. Mettler, chairman and chief executive officer of TRW Inc., is the newly elected chairman of the board of trustees of Caltech.
He succeeds R. Stanton Avery, founder chairman of Avery International, who has headed the Caltech board since 1974. Mettler, who has bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from Caltech, was one of the first to receive Caltech’s Distinguished Alumni Award. He has served as a trustee since 1969.
