There was no most valuable player award for the Southwest Future All-Star Series, but Santa Ana Mater Dei outfielder-pitcher Ty Moore would have received my vote.
In Sunday’s championship game, he had a single and double and struck out three consecutive batters during a two-inning pitching stint to help the South defeat the West, 10-4, at the Urban Youth Academy.
Nick Villar from El Toro hit a two-run home run using a wood bat. James Kaprielian from Irvine Beckman threw two shutout innings of relief. Cole Irvin from Anaheim Servite threw three shutout innings to start the game.
Having an impressive two-game weekend was Gardena Serra’s Ron Miller, who went five for seven and hit for the cycle on Saturday. Miller and his Serra teammate, Dominic Smith, had back-to-back doubles on Sunday.
