The Tri-County Athletic Assn. intends to submit two proposals next week at a meeting of schools in the Northern Area entrusted with revamping sports leagues, and both would involve moving football power Oaks Christian to the Marmonte League, according to Tri-County spokesman Dick Billingsley.
One proposal would move Oaks Christian to the Marmonte for football only in 2010 and move Calabasas into the Tri-Valley League. Another would have Oaks Christian and Calabasas switch places for all sports.
The Marmonte League intends to oppose both proposals. Also, Oaks Christian has sent a letter to the Catholic Athletic Assn. asking to ‘open a dialogue.’ The CAA, which runs the parochial school leagues, is already considering a request from St. Bonaventure to move to the Serra League for football.
My prediction is that the CAA will end up accepting St. Bonaventure but is unlikely to take Oaks Christian, which means Tuesday’s meeting in Santa Barbara ought to be full of entertainment as the Marmonte League schools argue vehemently against having a private school join their league.
Get ready for lots of hand-waving. The question is will there be handshakes afterward?
