If I was in charge of the marching band.....

I’ve always thought the band conductor was a very over-rated position, kind of like a closer in baseball. I’m watching the Marina marching band at halftime here at Westminster High, and the music makers seem more concerned with not tripping over a divot then watching an oddly-dressed guy flail his arms while standing on a ladder. At least he’s sticking around for the second half.

It seems like half the Marina crowd has cleared out, probably convinced the Vikings won’t come back from this 40-7 deficit against Colton. I admit, I’d be outta here too but I want to talk to a couple players from Colton afterward. One of those guys, BYU-bound safety Daniel Sorenson, looks like he’s finished for the night because of an injured ankle.

As for Marina, just be thankful it’s not worse. Colton turned the ball over three times in the first half, or they’d be halfway to 100 points.

Might be safe for the Yellowjackets to start thinking about their game against Los Osos next week and get Damien Holmes out of the game as well.

Editor Bob: I, on the other hand, have the highest regard for band conductors. My daughter wanted to be in the marching band in high school, but she plays the stand-up bass, and it doesn’t come with wheels. Anyway, here’s a YouTube video you might enjoy and, no, it is not Marina’s band or its conductor, who I am sure is a wonderful person with a great sense of style when it comes to clothing.
