It was low-scoring, ugly basketball rife with missed shots and turnovers.
Just the kind of game USC loves, but on the road, the Trojans came out flat against Washington State and fell, 51-47, Saturday in Pullman, Wash.
Trailing, 50-47, the Trojans had a chance to tie with 8.6 seconds left, but Dwight Lewis air-balled a contested three-point attempt from the left wing.
In a back-and-forth game, WSU’s Reggie Moore banked in an unlikely three-point shot over two defenders with 51.4 seconds to go, giving the Cougars a 48-44 lead. That shot proved decisive.
USC (16-10 overall, 8-6 in the Pacific 10 Conference) lost for the sixth time in its last seven games in Pullman.
Washington State (16-11, 6-9) had lost six of seven, but won the season series with USC after beating the Trojans, 67-60, last month in Los Angeles.
USC’s next game is Thursday when it plays host to Oregon at the Galen Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
