First live show boosts ‘X Factor’ ratings

‘The X Factor’ started its live shows Tuesday -- and drew its highest ratings since the series premiere.
Fox executives have been watching nervously since Simon Cowell’s singing competition stumbled a bit in the wake of interruptions and reschedulings from postseason baseball.
But Tuesday’s 2 1/2-hour extravaganza -- in which each of the four judges had to pick one act to leave the show -- won the night with a 3.7 rating/10 share in the key demographic of adults age 18 to 49, according to Nielsen.
An average of 10.1 million total viewers tuned in -- a modest figure for a reality show starring Cowell, but a sign of how lopsided toward young viewers the ‘X Factor’ audience is.
The ratings point the show in a positive direction as it heads toward the finale.
