Six victims from Reno air show accident still in critical condition

Four patients at Renown Regional Medical Center and two at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center remain in critical condition after Friday’s Reno air races crash, the hospitals reported Sunday.
The death toll, which included 74-year-old pilot Jimmy Leeward, reached nine on Saturday. Seven people died on the tarmac at Reno-Stead Airport, the site of the National Championship Air Races. Two more died later at the hospital.
Witnesses described a “hellish” scene after Leeward’s World War II-era plane plunged into the tarmac’s box seats. Officials praised first responders who transported all of the injured to hospitals within 62 minutes.
Renown, the main treatment center in the region, also listed one other victim in serious condition.
The hospital has treated 36 victims since Friday, including two more patients that walked in on their own.

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, which also took in a large number of the injured, last reported Saturday that it had two patients in critical condition and six in serious condition. It has treated a total of 26 patients, and 18 have been discharged.
